How many apprenticeship levels can I study?
Apprenticeship Levels Explained: What They Mean and Which One Is Right for You
Not sure which apprenticeship level suits you? Here’s a quick guide to the different apprenticeship levels and what you'll gain.
Level 2 – Intermediate Apprenticeship
Equivalent to five GCSEs, Level 2 apprenticeships are a great entry point for school leavers or anyone new to an industry. You’ll develop core skills and workplace experience.
Level 3 – Advanced Apprenticeship
Comparable to two A Levels, Level 3 is ideal if you have some experience or have completed a Level 2. You’ll specialise further and may take on extra responsibility at work.
Levels 4 & 5 – Higher Apprenticeship
Aligned with a foundation degree or HNC/HND, these apprenticeships let you master advanced skills for more technical roles. They’re a good fit for those progressing from Level 3 or seeking to upskill.
Levels 6 & 7 – Degree Apprenticeship
These lead to a full bachelor’s or master’s degree, combining university study and high-level workplace learning. Perfect for ambitious professionals looking for degree-level qualifications while earning.
Choosing the Right Level
Think about your current qualifications, experience, and career goals. Apprenticeships offer a pathway for everyone, and you can move up levels as your skills grow.
The apprenticeship duration varies between standards and also depending on any prior learning you have completed. If you have recognised prior learning, your apprenticeship duration could be reduced by factoring in your knowledge and ability.
