How often does my Apprentice attend college?
This varies based on the programme being studied.
Some of our Apprenticeships are operated almost entirely work-based, with added value masterclasses provided on a 6-weekly or 8-weekly cycle as is appropriate to the course content, and level of programme. In these instances, Apprentices are supported by a Professional Trainer who will visit them in their workplace and / or host sessions online. For these courses, the added value masterclasses are a great way to develop beyond the Apprentice's own job role, often expanding their exposure to roles beyond their own, as well as similar roles to theirs in different business types. This peer to peer learning opportunity has proved valuable to many of our Apprentices in their holistic development, especially those working in smaller businesses.
Some courses operate a traditional 'day-release' model, whereby Apprentices attend college for one day weekly, and work with you for the remainder of the time. This works well when there are elements of knowledge or skills training that need to be built up gradually and then applied in the workplace.
In other cases, we operate block release models where Apprentices attend college 'full time' for a period of weeks, before being released to their employer to put what they have learnt into practice. This tends to be utilised more for very practical trades, where an employer needs their Apprentice to have obtained a core level of training prior to being put out into the workplace.
We strive to ensure our curriculum is fully responsive to the needs of our employers, so if there is training you would like to see, or a delivery model you feel requires development, we would love to hear from you.
