What support do I get as an employer?

As an employer of an Apprentice you play a vital part in their career progression; we recognise the commitment, and want to better support you in that journey

Here at South Hampshire College Group we very much believe in the value of Apprenticeships as part of the career journey, and working with employers who see the holistic benefits of investing in this process for the long term not just using it as a tool for short term gains.

Many of our experiences with employers and apprentices have shown us that both parties really do get out what they put in.  From an Apprentice stand point this is common sense in that their development, and End Point Assessment grade will naturally be higher the more effort they invest.  What's often overlooked though, is the sliding scale of return on investment for employers.

An Apprenticeship is a 3 way contract between Apprentice, Employer and Training Provider.  As such that employer role is pivotal in ensuring the success of the Apprentice, but we recognize that for you to be successful in this, and to really feel the value, you also need support.

While our subject specialists and professional trainers support your Apprentices through their journey, our Business Partners are here to support you through yours, ensuring you gain access to any support you might need along the way.

Whatever stage of the process, our Business Development team are here to support you in areas including (but not limited to!):

  • Apprenticeship Recruitment Support
  • Funding options and support
  • Enhanced and bespoke training options
  • Wellbeing support
  • Line Manager Support
  • Incentives and grants - some examples are available here
  • Networking and development opportunities

What about when my Apprentice is enrolled?

Our support of you as an employer doesn't stop once your Apprentice is on programme; it's so important to keep up to date with how they're doing.  We know how tricky line management can be, and how hard it can be to know whether progress is aligning with expectations.  The apprenticeship review process is an excellent way to keep on top of things, and really understand where your apprentice is at, as well as to proactively manage any problems or concerns.  You can find out more below.

What about financial support?

You can find out more about what an apprenticeship will cost but an additional element which can help to offset costs and mitigate financial pressures is relief on NI contributions for those employing young apprentices.

Specifically, if your apprentice is under 25 years old, enrolled in an approved UK government apprenticeship standard or framework, and earns less than £967 a week (£50,270 a year), you may not be required to pay Class 1 National Insurance contributions for them.  Our Business Development team is here to guide you through understanding and accessing these financial benefits, ensuring you maximize the support available for your apprenticeship program.
